How to Maintain your Hair Color at Home in Summer

Summer is all about sunshine, pontoon rides and beach days - but unfortunately, it's also when your hair color takes the biggest hit. Between UV rays, chlorine, and extra showers, your fresh salon hue can fade fast if you're not careful. Keeping your color vibrant all season long is possible, and you don't need to book weekly salon visits to do it.

Here's how you can maintain your hair color at home this summer:

  1. Use Color-Safe Shampoo and Conditioner:

Opt for sulfate-free products specifically designed for color-treated hair. These help preserve the color and prevent fading.

  2. Limit Sun Exposure:

UV rays can fade hair color. Wear a hat or use a UV protection spray for hair when spending extended time outdoors.

  3. Hydrate Your Hair:

Summer heat can dry out your hair. Use deep conditioning treatments or hair masks weekly to keep your hair moisturized.

  4. Avoid Chlorine Damage:

If swimming in pools, rinse your hair beforehand and apply a leave-in conditioner. Consider using a swimmer's shampoo to remove chlorine build-up afterward.

  5. Reduce Heat Styling:

Minimize the use of heat tools like straighteners and curling irons. If you do use them, apply a heat protectant spray first.

  6. Refresh Your Color:

Use color-depositing conditioners or glosses periodically to enhance and refresh your hair color between salon visits.

  7. Stay Hydrated: Drinking enough water helps keep your hair hydrated from the inside out.
